Hi all! As promised here are the behind the scenes photos of my bunting :-) You'll have to excuse my bright red Portuguese cooking book in the background...ehem... I'm quite pleased with how they turned out and even thought I'd write out instructions so you can try it for yourself. I wanted to make bunting that was firm and strong, with no fraying edges but didn't have a sewing machine. Here's how I did it:
Tools and Materials:
Craft Glue
Fabric Scissors
Selection of fabric (I used cotton fabric, three different colours 25x100cm in size)
White Felt (several A4 sheets)
Ribbon
Scrap piece of cardboard
Pencil
Step 1.
Using a small piece of scrap cardboard, cut out a triangle template to use for your bunting. If you're not sure what size or shape to use, feel free to use the template I've provided :-)
Step 2.
Using the cardboard template, draw and cut out triangle shapes on your felt (cut as many as you'd like your bunting to have). These triangles are actually going to be used for the INSIDE of your bunting.
Step 3.
Using the same cardboard template, draw and cut out triangle shapes on your fabric (cut as many as you'd like your bunting to have). These triangles are actually going to be used for the BACK of your bunting.
Step 4.
Use your cardboard template to cut out the same number of triangles again, but this time, sketch roughly 1cm out from your cardboard template so that your triangles are too big. This will be used for the FRONT side of your bunting. The picture below shows your normal sized triangles compared to your slightly larger ones.
Step 5.
Now for the fun part! Using craft glue, glue around the edges of a felt triangle and place it face down onto a large fabric triangle.
Step 6.
Put more glue around the leftover edges of fabric, and fold over onto the felt. Then get one of your normal sized fabric triangles (of matching colour) and glue down over the exposed felt. It should be an exact fit because you've used the same template. Trim off any untidy corners and seal the edges with glue to stop the fabric from fraying. Repeat this step for every one of your bunting triangles.
Step 7.
Nearly there! You should now have all your triangles ready for your bunting. Lay out your triangles in a straight line over a large surface, in the order you want them to hang. Place small dollops of glue on the corners of your triangles and carefully glue down your ribbon over the top.
Wait for the glue to dry, and you're all finished!
