I was recently given Shaun Tan's The Bird King and Other Sketches by my sister and thought I would share some of Tan's illustrations with you. They are incredibly unusual and imaginative. I'm also amazed at how he draws with such simplicity yet seems to include such detail in his drawings.
In order from top to bottom: 'The Eight Eggs' graphite and coloured pencil, 'Coral Tree, Bundanon' ink and pastel crayon on grey paper, 6ft Polyglot Wingbeater from What Miscellaneous Abnormality Is That?, Water Buffalo from Tales From Outer Suburbia, Illustration from The Bird King and Other Sketches, Endpaper Designs - a page from Eric's Private Notebooks, 'Mother and Daughters' and 'The Place of Nests' pencil on paper.
Hope you enjoy!
